HOLIDAY / NUTCRACKER
We debuted our whimsical arrangements of Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite in 2004 at a sold out show with Graham Reynold’s Golden Arm Trio at Austin’s Church of the Friendly Ghost. We were surprised by it’s popularity and in the 10 years that followed we played nearly every holiday event of note in the Austin-SanAntonio-DFW-Houston triangle and beyond partnering with organizations like Ballet Austin, Houston Ballet, Downtown Dallas Alliance, Whole Foods, Central Market, Gaylord Texan Hotel, KUHF FM, Discovery Green, KUT/KUTX FM, etc. etc. etc.
In 2007, we released our Nutcracker Suite album with four bonus pieces that Tchaikovsky didn’t include in the Suite but that we thought were essential – "Waltz of the Snowflakes", "Mother Ginger", "The Spanish Dance" and the apotheosis of the show which features one of the main melodies heard throughout the ballet.
Eventually we added other quirky arrangements of familiar holiday tunes to our shows like “The Christmas Song” and “O Little Town of Bethlehem” and in 2014 began an annual collaboration with Panoramic Voices – an adventurous and massive vocal ensemble directed by Brent Baldwin – which has become the focus of our holiday efforts since.
