I was backing up all our old video files and found this GoPro footage of a really good holiday performance from DEC 2016 at Fred’s Texas Cafe in Ft. Worth.
This was the last year we performed a full-on Nutcracker holiday show (since then we’ve done holiday shows but with minimal or no Nutcracker material.)
We used to do the holiday show at Fred’s every year and it was… weird. The staff liked us and we did have some supporters that’d come to Fred’s but usually the venue hosts country, blues and acts that are more rootsy and Texas-y than us. We’d usually start around 8 PM and the regulars in starched jeans and cowboy hats would gawk and eventually trickle out as they finished their meals.
Although one time, a particularly gregarious fellow gave us a $20 tip when we surprised him by playing “Linus and Lucy.”
This was a great night. Dave Irish (drums) and Henry Vines (bass) hadn’t played with us a 3-4 years and they were solid. Henry sounds particularly good here because the mic is right by his amp!
